The Stone County Historical Society invites the public to its quarterly program Sunday, March 9, at 2pm at 206 School Avenue. A program on the history of the North Arkansas Farm Supply Cooperative will be presented by Larry Smith. The cooperative was established in 1947 and has locations at Mountain View and Batesville. Smith managed the Mountain View site from 2001 until his retirement in 2024. A special invitation is extended to former and current customers and patrons of the cooperative.
The Society will co-sponsor a genealogy class at 1pm on Wednesday, March 12 at The Center at 116 W. Main Street. The class will be presented by FamilySearch consultants and will focus on tips from RootsTech. It will last about one hour. Call 870-269-3222 to register. RootsTech is an annual genealogy conference scheduled for March 6-8 with online attendance available for free. Register at rootstech.org.
The Society welcomes new members. Annual dues are $20 and may be mailed to SCHS, PO Box 210, Mountain View 72560. The Society also operates the museum which is housed in the historic building that was formerly the Mountain View School. Renovations are underway in the museum including painting, replacing floor joists, and installing new flooring. Heat and air improvements are also scheduled. Former students who attended the historic school building are challenged to consider donating to the renovation project. A fundraiser musical event is planned for April 12 with more information forthcoming.
