The Stone County Historical Society will honor women veterans of Stone County at its quarterly meeting on Sunday, June 9 at 2pm at 206 School Avenue in Mountain View. All women who are serving or have served in the U.S. military are invited to be honored guests.
The program will include remarks by several veterans from Stone County including Josephine Linker Hart, Jessica Sterlin, and Gloria Chitwood. Hollie Scoma, who serves as the Arkansas Women Veterans Coordinator will be a guest speaker.
The Stone County Historical Society is gathering the names of women veterans who formerly lived or currently live in Stone County. Please email the names and contact information of women veterans to rushingcarr@gmail.com or call 870-615-2195 so the society can recognize all women veterans, both past and present, of Stone County.
The SCHS is also working on an exhibit to recognize Stone County women known to have served in World War II. Any information or artifacts relevant to this will be appreciated.
The Stone County Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to document and preserve the history of Stone County. The organization operates the Stone County Museum which is open Thursday-Saturday from 1-4pm through October and is maintained by volunteers.
The Society invites anyone interested in local history to become a member and to volunteer. Dues are $20 annually which provides members with two 24+ page publications each year plus emailed information regarding Society news and events. Dues may be mailed to SCHS, PO Box 210, Mountain View, AR 72560. The first publication of the year will be available for distribution to members at the June meeting and is available for sale to others for $10.
