SCHS kicks off year with quarterly meeting

The quarterly meeting held March 8, 2026 was conducted by President Janice Sutton and included adoption of new bylaws and duties/procedures which resulted in the election of at-large members joining the officers to constitute a 13- member board. At-large members proposed by the nominating committee and approved by the membership: Robbie Purdom, Stephanie Davis, Renee Carr, Mary Tedsen, Cathy Ward, Bette Anders, and Linda Jackson.

Immediate past president Lynda Swafford is also a member of the board and acknowledged Jon Birkey and friends for using the auditorium in January and February and giving all donations to SCHS.

The crowd enjoyed sitting in the newly acquired chairs that look so nice in the auditorium.

Annual dues of $25 were announced and members were encourage to complete a member profile for membership secretary Linda Pugh when paying dues. A financial report was presented by Treasurer Ruth Bonds. Minutes were read by Mary Tedsen who filled in for secretary Juanita Terry who couldn’t be there.

President Janice Sutton announced that an Arkansas grant is in the application stages through White River Planning & Development that will help fund renovations to two more rooms. The grant requires a local match which will be provided by SCHS, Stone County, and City of Mountain View, the joint owners of the property.

Volunteer coordinator Gloria Chitwood announced training for museum volunteers will be held Thursday, April 9 from 1:00-2:30pm.

Refreshments were provided and members visited and enjoyed the apron display.

The special program was arranged by vice-president Kay Thomas who introduced Annette Woods, a collector of aprons. Annette shared the history of aprons, personal stories related to her collection, and displayed many of the aprons she collected over the years.
